Studio helps local youth connection with dance

FLINT — The Heart of Worship Dance Studio wants to get kids up and moving by engaging them in the art of dance. Beginning this week, the studio will be offering ballet, hip hop, liturgical and jazz at no charge to children ages 5 to 19.

“Children in our area face many challenges in their everyday lives. Dance is a great way to take their minds off things and to channel their energy through artistic expression,” said Porcha Clemons the studio’s owner.

Clemons will be teaching the classes on Mondays and Tuesdays from 4:30-6 p.m. at West Court Street Church of God starting on Jan. 8. There is no cost for the classes, but children must be registered in advance. Each child’s guardian will be required to fill out paperwork before he or she can attend a class.

Area youth ages 5 to 19 are welcome to register. Anyone interested in the classes must register their child online at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/danceclassregistration.

The classes offered by the Heart of Worship Dance Studio are made possible with support from Flint ReCAST. The Flint Resiliency in Communities After Stress and Trauma Program (ReCAST) is funded through SAMHSA (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration).
