MORRIS – After drubbing Bendle in its football season opener, Goodrich kept the exact same pace in week two by topping Mt. Morris on the road last Thursday, 51-6. The catalyst for the massive lead was an explosive second quarter, where the Martians outscored the Panthers, 28-0.

The offense got going early when Jacob Wagner connected with Tyson Davis for a 26-yard score before Mt. Morris fumbled the ball away and Drake Toms recovered it for the touchdown, quickly putting Goodrich up by 14.

Running back Spencer King plowed through for a 2-yard touchdown to start off the second quarter, and not long after, Wagner found Latrell Fordham for a 47-yard scoring strike. Wagner would also hit Davis again for a 25-yard touchdown, and then once again hooked up with Fordham for a touchdown pass, this one from 26 yards out, to put Goodrich up 42-0 at halftime.

The lone score of the third quarter was a successful 21-yard field goal from Hunter Haffner. Goodrich’s final tally came in the last stanza on a one-yard rushing touchdown from Dominic Edwards and Mt. Morris finally got on the board with 1:06 remaining when Joey Young hit Willie Jones on a 47-yard touchdown pass.

Wagner was 6-of-10 for 132 yards and four touchdowns, Joe Toporek rushed nine times for 89 yards and King had five carries for 51 yards and a score. Fordham hauled in two passes for 73 yards and two touchdowns and Davis had two catches for 51 yards and two scores.

Goodrich, 2-0, travels to Durand on Friday.
