The event will bring together many schools from around the area and beyond to compete in a massive tournament at Metamora Golf & Country Club.

“It’s something we’ve done for years now,” said Lapeer golf coach Steve Stearns. “We’ve got a pretty good field this year.”

That field includes Lapeer, North Branch, Bay City Western, Frankenmuth, Lake Fenton, Midland- Dow, Waterford Kettering, Waterford Mott, Traverse City Central, Oxford, Romeo, Utica Ford, Saginaw Heritage, Brandon, Kearsley, Detroit Country Day, Clio and Goodrich.

Last year, Utica Ford took the top spot at the tournament, just barely beating out Goodrich for the championship.

Stearns noted that there are many teams that are competing this season that made the state tournament last season, allowing for tough competition throughout the field. Additionally, because Lapeer will be hosting the regional tournament this season, there were many other schools that were anxious to join to get a feel for the course before the end of the season.

The tournament, which allows six golfers per team as opposed to four that normally compete in league events, is a great way for schools to figure out lineups if they haven’t already, according to Stearns.

“We just try to get back in the groove and see how we’re going to do,” said Stearns.

The tournament is set to start at 9 a.m. on Friday, weather pending.
