Goodrich Lions prepare Christmas baskets

GOODRICH — The Goodrich Lions Club has begun its annual canned goods and non-perishable food item collection for local family Christmas baskets. Collection boxes are located at: Atlas Township Office, Village of Goodrich Office, Goodrich United Methodist Church, and Victory World Outreach Church. The collection effort will run until Dec. 17. Genesys Hospice hosts paintings by Greg Zafiroff

GRAND BLANC TWP. — Mixed media paintings by Greg Zafiroff are on display at Genesys Health Park Nov. 21– Jan. 23. The exhibit is on the 2nd Floor between the elevators, and is sponsored by the Grand Blanc Arts Council. To purchase a piece of artwork, call the Hospice Division of Reverence at 810-695-9878 who will receive 25 percent of the proceeds. — P.S.

Catholic Charities provide warmth for the winter

FLINT — Catholic Charities Center has opened its doors to the homeless for its Hope Warming Center. The Warming Center is housed in Catholic Charities’ Center for Hope, (former St. Michael School/Schools of Choice building) on Fifth Avenue in Flint.

Now through March 2015, the Warming Center will be open 24 hours, 7 days a week. Guests will receive a hot cup of coffee, meals and snacks, as well as the opportunity to watch TV and read books and magazines to pass the time; but most importantly, they will have a safe place to stay warm.

Last winter, Catholic Charities welcomed more than 12,500 people into the Warming Center, including more than 200 children. If you want to help Catholic Charities keep families warm this winter, please email astart@ccsgc.org for volunteer and donating opportunities.

Catholic Charities of Shiawassee and Genesee Counties has been Providing Help and Creating Hope for those in need since 1941, serving all people regardless of faith. This diverse social services agency offers an array of programs including counseling, substance use treatment, prevention and education, foster care, adoption, the Center for Hope Community Closet and Center for Hope Warming Center as well as the North End, Center for Hope and South Flint Soup Kitchens.

Cookie Walk to be held

BURTON — St. Catherine’s League of St. Nicholas Orthodox Church, 2143 S. Center Rd., will hold a Cookie Walk from 10 a.m.-1 p.m, Dec. 12. There will be ethnic cookies and other baked goods sold at $8 per pound. Hot beverages will be served. Details: Call 810-744-0070. — G.G.
