Brendel students are ‘roll’ models

Grand Blanc’s Brendel elementary students formed an interesting alliance in a competition to help Catholic Charities fulfill one of their least served needs for the second year in a row.

In compliance with the district's strategic plan which encourages service learning projects, the school collected 4,278 rolls of toilet paper this year, which according to representative Mr. Manns, is nearly half their annual supply needed to give to those less fortunate. The 2012 Toilet Paper Drive featured a campaign for “spare a square score a touchdown” to collect the rolls during the week leading up to the Super Bowl.

Kerri Prue, Jana Forgach and Jennifer LaHaie are the three Kindergarten teachers who chaired this event and their classrooms helped collect, count and graph the donations. Pictured is Ms. LaHaie’s winning class in front of the very large pyramid of toilet paper they helped collect—and were rewarded with a pizza party sponsored by Brendel’s student council.
