Kidney cancer support group meeting in October

FLINT — The Kidney Cancer Educational Support Group will meet Oct. 17, 1:30-3:30 p.m. at Genesys Hurley Cancer Institute, 302 Kensington.

Featured speaker is Dr. Stuart Wolf, Jr., director of the Minimally Invasive Urology Division; Professor of Urology, University of Michigan.

Genealogy workshop Oct. 6 in Lapeer

LAPEER — The Lapeer Genealogical Society, along with Derek Davey, will present a one-day workshop Oct. 6 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. The day will be filled with educational information.

Davey’s degrees include certificate of genealogy from Boston University and a Bachelor of Arts degree in history from the University of Toledo.

Mark your calendar. Registration is required. The event will be held at First Presbyterian Church, 433 N. Calhoun St., Lapeer. Door prizes, a welcome bag and snacks with be provided.

You can bring a sack lunch or eat at a local restaurant during the lunch break.

The fee for this class is $40 each for Lapeer County Genealogical Society members, groups of 10 or more that sign up together, or $45 for non-members.

Salvation Army seeks bell ringers

GENESEE COUNTY — The Salvation Army of Genesee County will host two job fairs in mid-October to recruit full-and part-time bell ringers for the upcoming Red Kettle Campaign.

The job fairs will be held Oct. 11 at 10 a.m. at the Beecher Corps located at 1475 W. Coldwater Rd. and on Oct.15 at 9 a.m. at the Citadel Corps located at 211 W. Kearsley St. in downtown Flint.

To apply for a bell ringer position, applicants are required to attend one of the October job fairs. Candidates must be at least 18 years old and will be required to present the following information at the job fair: a valid Driver’s License or State ID; Social Security Card; a schedule of availability.

The Salvation Army Red Kettle bell ringing season kicks off Nov. 9 and continues through Dec. 24.
