Security Credit Union hosts “Support Our Troops” drive

FLINT — Security Credit Union (SCU) has partnered with Operation Care Package of Michigan to host a “Support Our Troops” collection drive and send care packages to United States soldiers overseas.

Donations are being collected at Security Credit Union’s 10 locations now through Oct. 22.

Suggested items include:

• Personal toiletries (no travel size please): shampoo, soap, lip balm, dental floss, deodorant, lotion, eye drops and disposable razors.

• Non-perishable food items: beef jerky, chips, crackers, dry cereal, protein bars, instant oatmeal, microwave popcorn, pudding cups and hard candies.

• Clothing: underwear, socks (white), bandanas, slippers and shower shoes.

• Recreation materials: board games, batteries, puzzles books, CDs and DVDs, video games, athletic equipment, sewing kits and stationery

Toastmasters to hold speech contest

GRAND BLANC — Want to share a good laugh? Want to watch and listen to some very talented speakers tell great stories?

Come to the Toastmasters International Area 10 and 11 Humorous and Table Topics speech contest.

You will definitely leave with a smile on your face. It is on Oct. 6 from 9 a.m.- 12 p.m. at Grand Blanc Township Police Department, 5405 S. Saginaw St.

HealthPlus achieves high ratings trifecta

FLINT — HealthPlus of Michigan’s private health maintenance organization/point of service (HMO/POS), Medicare HMO and Medicaid HMO plans are among the highest-rated plans in the nation in their respective categories, according to the National Committee for Quality Assurance’s (NCQA) Health Insurance Plan Rankings 2012-13 which were released last week.
