Child passenger safety training course May 8–11
The national curriculum was developed for child passenger safety advocates interested in becoming certified child passenger safety technicians.
The certification course will be held at the Kettering University Crash Safety Center, 1700 University Avenue, Flint, Michigan. The class runs from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. daily.
The class involves lecture, indoor hands-on training, outdoor hands-on training and a public car seat inspection. Students must attend all sessions including the car seat check to be eligible for certification.
Since much of the activity is outside on asphalt pavement, be sure to wear casual, comfortable clothing, hats and sunglasses as well as sunblock should be considered a “must have” for this class. We work outdoors as part of this class so please dress appropriately for the weather conditions.
The cost for the course is $75 and includes all course materials, a continental breakfast, and lunch each day. You are on your own for dinner and hotel accommodations. Instructions for signing up for the class can be found on the certification section of the Safe Kids web site http://cert. safekids.org/. Once you go to this website, you will find payment information, along with other details.
Passenger Safety Instructors will conduct the course. They will use a variety of vehicles, child safety seats, safety belts and other teaching tools in order to give students as much direct experience as possible with a variety of car seat and belt system combinations. They will be using the student vehicles to train in.
Class size is limited to 15. The registration deadline is April 27, 2012. Details: Call 810-262-7064. — G.G.
