The B. Hive buzzes over to new spot
The B. Hive owners James and Bernadette Jacobs celebrated the anniversary of their business with an expansion in their newly opened, Goodrich Trade Center, located off of M-15. The B. Hive features 28 dealers, such as the Black Sheep Primitive country goods featured in the picture, and 300 consignors.
Photos by Amanda Braniecki GOODRICH — Two weeks after moving to its new location, The B. Hive in Goodrich is considering expanding once again.
Originally located in the downtown area, James and Bernadette Jacobs celebrated their consignment shop’s first anniversary by moving it to a larger space within their newly opened Goodrich Trade Center, located at 7285 S. State St.
“It was bitter sweet to leave the old shop, but this is just better for us,” Bernadette Jacobs said. “We are really focused on making Goodrich a destination spot and drawing people to this community.”
The B. Hive, open seven days a week, features a wide variety of things from household items to clothing, food and outdoor decorations. Settled on 25,000 square feet of land, the Goodrich Trade Center now serves as an auction site to the Jacobs’ Legacy Estate and Auction Services and a weekly Saturday flea market in addition to The B. Hive.
“I never imagined it (the trade center) turning into this,” Bernadette Jacobs said. “We’ve gotten an amazing response and it keeps on getting bigger and constantly evolving.”
The flea market itself draws in more than 1,000 guests and about 100 vendors from the surrounding areas and beyond, while The B. Hive features 28 dealers — including the Black Sheep Primitives, Cowgirlz Clozet, Gypsy Junk, Mixed Nuts and Sweet Occasions — and more than 300 consignors.
“We have a waiting list for new dealers at The B. Hive,” Bernadette said. “There is more space available in the back here that we are looking to expand into possibly in the next month or so to accommodate those dealers.”
The B. Hive features an eclectic mix of everything from furniture to country store items, outdoor and indoor decorations, clothes, vintage pieces, jewelry, accessories and food.
“I’ve truly enjoyed this experience from the staging and decorating the store to meeting the people that stop in,” Bernadette said. “I can’t wait to see what the future holds.”
The flea market runs from 8 a.m.- 4 p.m. on Saturdays, while The B. Hive is open from 10 a.m.- 7 p.m. Monday- Fridays, 8 a.m.- 6 p.m. on Saturdays and noon- 5 p.m. on Sundays.
