Bobcats fall despite 268 game WALLED LAKE — Nick Piotrowski smashed a 268 in the second regular game, but Grand Blanc still fell short in a 19-11 loss to Walled Lake Central in a Kensington Lakes Activities Association match last Friday. The Bobcats’ girls’ team also bowed to the Vikings, 29-1. The boys’ team fell behind, 10-0, in the two BAKER games, but started to rally with a 1,081-1,008 victory in the first regular game. Piotrowski’s 236 sparked the comeback, as Grand Blanc narrowed the gap to 12-7. But the Bobcats dropped a close second game, 985-961. Travis Sutherland added a 222, Ryan Witucki bowled 217, Lucas Dixon rolled a 214, Korbyn Brock had a 194 and Quinnaire Humphrey added a 192 for Grand Blanc. The Lady Bobcats were led by Chelsea Cardinal’s 204, Samantha Handa’s 182-183 and Marisa DiPonio’s 183. — D.N. GOODRICH While the Martians and Byron boys’ bowling teams may both be in the middle of the Genesee Area Conference pack this season, Goodrich is still having the much better season. It showed last Saturday as Goodrich worked its way to its seventh win of the season after 10 weeks of play. That kept the Martians holding firm in fourth place in the league behind Durand and Mt. Morris at 9-1 and New Lothrop at 8-2, but ahead of Bendle and Bentley at 6-4, and standing in at 4-6 are LakeVille and Byron. Now 20 games into the current campaign, Jake Luettke leads Goodrich with 4,006 pins downed for a 200 average and Ryan Baxter has a 188 average after taking out 3,778 pins. The Lady Martians weren’t quite so fortunate, though, and lost to Byron at Colonial Lanes to fall to 3-7 on the year. That dropped Goodrich to eighth in the GAC behind Mt. Morris, Durand and Bendle at 9-1, Byron is 7-3, and sliding in at 5-5 are Beecher and Montrose. With 18 games played this year Olivia Ramirez is the current team leader with a 144 average on 2,601 pins taken out, Holly Slagle has knocked down 1,562 pins this season in 13 games for a 120 average and Rachel Girling has a 113 average after rolling over 2,152 pins in 19 games. Goodrich ends the regular season Saturday at Nightengale Lanes against LakeVille. — M.S. |
