In brief

ROWE celebrates Golden Anniversary

FLINT — ROWE Professional Services Company is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. In 1962, a young Dave Rowe founded Rowe Engineering and Surveying Services. Ironically, one of Dave’s first offices was within a few blocks of ROWE’s current headquarters in downtown Flint. Dave’s original philosophy of doing what’s best for the client in the long term, getting involved personally, and giving back to our communities still stands today. ROWE truly appreciates the opportunity to team with fantastic clients for the past five decades and ardently looks forward to providing “large firm resources with personal attention” throughout the 21st century. ROWE is a full-service professional firm specializing in civil engineering, surveying, aerial photography/mapping, landscape architecture, planning, and land development. The company’s headquarters is in Flint; additional offices are located in Lapeer, Mt. Pleasant, Grayling, and the tri-cities area, and Myrtle Beach, SC. — G.G.

HAP supports effort to stop childhood obesity

DETROIT — Health Alliance Plan (HAP) is proud to support the Active Schools Acceleration Project’s (ASAP) Innovation Competition, an initiative of ChildObesity180 designed to find the best approaches and technological innovations in school-based physical activity. As First Lady Michelle Obama announced recently, ASAP’s Innovation Competition will award a total of $500,000 in prizes to the best school-based programs and technological innovations that promote physical activity for children based on creativity, impact, and potential for scale. In addition to monetary awards, top winners will advance to participate in fully funded pilot studies aimed at expanding both reach and impact. ASAP is calling for entries from schools, teachers, technology developers, entrepreneurs — anyone with a passion and a plan to get students active and healthy. The competition features two categories: “School Programs” and “Technology Innovation.” The competition will accept submissions through April 2. All competition details can be found at www.ActiveSchoolsASA. — G.G.
