Wombwell signs with Pfeiffer
GREENSBOROUGH, NC. — Alyssa Wombwell, a center mid/forward on the Grand Blanc girls’ soccer team, has signed a national letter of intent to play for Pfeiffer University.
Wombwell, who has played soccer since the age of four, plays for the Michigan Football Club, a combined team from the Bloomfield Force and Novi Jaguars. The four-year player led in goals and assists in her junior year, and scored 38 goals with 34 assists in her first three seasons.
She was named All-Big Nine First Team in 2006 and 2007 and was an honorable mention in 2005. She made the All-Area Team from 2005-2007, was All-District in Div. 1 in 2005-2007, was named All-Region in 2007, and made All-State Third Team in 2007.
Wombwell has played for the Force, Michigan Nationals, FSSC Sting, Vardar and Michigan Hawks. She made the Olympic Development state team 2000-2004 and was named to the state pool 2006-2007.
Wombwell had considered University of Arkansas - Pine Bluff and Western Kentucky before choosing Pfeiffer.
“I picked Pfeiffer because of the community and the school is really close and supportive of soccer,” Wombwell said. “The academic program also was a good fit and I always wanted to go to North Carolina to play soccer where it’s warmer.”
Wombwell carries a 3.99 GPA and ranks in the top 10 at Grand Blanc academically. Sports medicine is the career path she plans to pursue. — L.P.
