Health care course
FLINT — The Visiting Nurse Services of Michigan is offering a Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers course from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Feb. 21. Registration is $30.
The course is American Heart Association approved and is intended to educate those who provide health care to patients in a wide assortment of situations, including treatment for victims of all ages, use of an AED and relief of foreign-body airway obstruction. At the end of the session, each participant will be CPR and First Aid certified.

For moms
GRAND BLANC — The Mother of Preschoolers Organization of the Grand Blanc United Methodist Church will be hosting a Mom-to-Mom sale from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. on Saturday, March 3, at the Grand Blanc United Methodist Church, 515 Bush Ave.

Wild events
GRAND BLANC — J.J. Cardinal’s Wild Bird and Nature Store, 12830 S. Saginaw, will have a special class at 2:30 p.m. on Feb. 19. Participants will decorate and construct a journal and learn bookbinding. Cost is $10 and the class is for ages eight and older.
Individuals can learn about wildflowers and paint wooden flowers that adhere to magnets at 4 p.m. Feb. 27. Cost is $5 and the class is for ages five and older.

Reading dogs
GOODRICH — The Goodrich Library, 10237 Hegel Rd., offers children a Paws’itive Approach to Tales from 6-7 p.m. every Tuesday and Wednesday in February.
Kids can practice reading skills, sharing their favorite books by reading to certified therapy dogs — Brittanys Ginger and Riley and Levi the Golden Retriever — who love kids and books. Call the library at 810-636-2489 for more information. — J.N.

Kindergarten time
GOODRICH — Goodrich Schools has announced plans for kindergarten registration during the week of April 16-20 at Reid Elementary, 7501 Seneca Street. There will be round-up nights May 8 and May 10.
All children who are five years old on or before Dec. 1, 2007 are eligible to register. If your child is eligible, call 810-591-3455 to provide your child’s name and address to the school office. A registration packet will be sent for completion. — P.H.

Swimming anyone?
GRAND BLANC — Grand Blanc Parks and Recreation is offering open swim nights on Monday and Wednesday evenings through May 23 at the Grand Blanc High School West pool.
Session one will be from 7-7:55 p.m. and session two will be from 8-8:50 p.m. each Monday and Wednesday, although the open swim will be cancelled if school is closed or cancelled. Also, a minimum of six people must be present at the session, or it will be cancelled.

Awards brunch
GRAND BLANC TWP. — The Genesee District Library is hosting its 2007 Black History Month Awards Brunch at 10 a.m. Feb. 24 at the Genesys Conference and Banquet Center.
Featured at this year’s event, emceed by ABC-12’s Dawn Jones, will be: Susan L. Taylor, editorial director for Essence Magazine; Judge Archie L. Hayman from the seventh judicial circuit of Genesee County; Pastor Larry A. Holley of Abundant Life Ministries International; Chief Theresa A. Stephens-Locke, director of public safety at Mott Community College; and Lillian McCain, a professor at MCC.

Registration time
GRAND BLANC — Parents of Grand Blanc children who will be ready to start kindergarten next school year have several important dates upcoming, beginning with an informational meeting from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Feb. 26 in the Grand Blanc High School West Commons.
Enrollment begins Feb. 27 at all district elementary schools from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. After Feb. 27, enrollment will be 8 a.m.-4 p.m. on all weekdays when school is in session.
There will be a health fair, bus ride and kindergarten registration from noon-6:30 p.m. May 9 at the Perry Center gym.
May 11 marks the deadline for all full-day kindergarten and school of choice requests. They must be received at any elementary school office or the administration building by 4 p.m.
If necessary, a lottery for student placement in full-day kindergarten will be at 1:30 p.m. May 15 at the administration building. Letters confirming placement or waiting list status (if needed) will be mailed May 16.
