Meet moms

GRAND BLANC -- The MOMS Club of Grand Blanc/Swartz Creek is hosting a membership drive and activities from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Sept. 19 at St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church, 9020 S. Saginaw St.

During the drive, the police department will be handing out fingerprint and DNA kits for children, AAA will perform child safety seat inspections and the fire department is bringing one of its fire trucks.

The MOMS Club provides weekly activities for stay-at-home mothers and their children, including playgroups, field trips, a moms’ night out and community service projects. Contact Shelley at 810-694-6143 for new member information. -- J.D.N.


Drum Line

CLIO -- The Steelheads, Flint’s own steel drum band, will perform with special guest Andy Narell at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow at the Clio Area Amphitheatre.

The award-winning band features a percussion ensemble and steel band featuring student from Mott Community College, Mott Middle College High School and University of Michigan-Flint. Narell has released 12 solo albums and is considered a pioneer of steel pan into contemporary music. He has performed with jazz legends Tito Puente, Hugh Masekela and Bela Flack, among others.

Stage sale

FLINT -- Flint Youth Theatre, 1220 E. Kearsley St., is hosting a Backstage Sale from 7-9 p.m. Sept. 8.

The sale is a flea-market of props, scenery, theatrical equipment and costumes. Representatives from area production companies, drama programs and churches are encouraged to attend.

Book signing

BRANDON TWP. -- Goodrich tennis coach Renee Hand will do a book signing at the Brandon Township Public Library at 7 p.m. Sept. 11.

Hand recently published her first romance novel, Magic Hearts. She will give a presentation, information on getting published, her background and will be having a love poem contest for children and teens during the event.
