Ban lifted

GRAND BLANC TWP. -- The outdoor water ban has passed and Roger Buell, township director of public services, told the board at last Wednesday’s meeting that everything went well.

A release last weekend stated that an outdoor water ban was in effect for all county residents, except owners of a private well, until a main pipeline could be welded and fixed.

Buell said that the water pressure was lower than normal, so his department turned the wells offline and then back on in an effort to let water levels rise again.

He also said that the board had already approved a new policy that will allow public services to help residents whose wells go dry, to investigate the matter to the fullest extent; if the township is at fault, they will fix the problem and provide temporary assistance.

In other business:

· Michael Deem from Cascade Twp. near Lansing will be the newest planner in the township. He will work under Keith Edwards, community development director. The board will officially announce the hiring at its Sept. 14 meeting.

· It was brought to the board’s attention that some volunteer firefighters were going on runs without completing the proper training, and still getting paid. The board is concerned that the fire department would be liable for any injuries and will work to set a specific day of the week for training.

· Township Supervisor Jeff Zittel asked Buell to work on distinguishing job descriptions for DPW technician positions. Zittel thinks it will be beneficial to know the differences between specific jobs done by the DPW technicians. --A.E.
