Author to do free talk, book signing

MUNDY TWP. — Best-selling author Amy Tan will visit the Holiday Inn Gateway Centre at 3 p.m. Oct. 15 to speak, do a book signing and will answer questions during a reception.
Tan’s breakthrough work was The Joy Luck Club, which was published as a collection of linked short stories but was viewed by reviewers and readers as a novel. The book was a surprise success, staying on the New York Times best-seller list for more than 40 weeks and won the Commonwealth Gold Award. The book was turned into a film in 1994.
Other books by Tan include The Kitchen God’s Wife, The Hundred Secret Senses, The Bonesetter’s Daughter and The Opposite of Fate. She also has written several short stories, essays and children’s books.
Prior to Tan’s appearance, several branches of the Genesee District Library are hosting discussion groups to discuss Tan’s work at the following times and locations: Flushing Area Library, 7 p.m. Oct. 3; Fenton Winegarden Library, 7 p.m. Oct. 5; Grand Blanc McFarlen Library, 7 p.m. Oct. 10; Davison Area Library, 7 p.m. Oct. 12.
